Job Description:

Internal Frequent contact with staff across all teams, including donated goods retail, marketing and communications, mission innovation and strategy, strategic partnership activation, member advancement and government relations as well as other team members from various teams to coordinate on projects. Contact with GII president and CEO, and members of the executive and leadership teams to meet communication goals.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work cross-functionally to develop content strategy, strategize and lead Goodwill communications campaigns for grant-funded projects and cause partnerships.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Provide public relations resources, consultations and support for the PR efforts of local Goodwill organizations. Secure and place high visible opportunities in all media platforms (print, radio, broadcast and online) and with media partners for the Goodwill brand.
  • Strategize on effective internal distribution of materials with other members of the MarCom team. Master internal and external technology systems to update internal properties such as MyGoodwill, GII public site and Smartsheets.
  • Lead, plan and execute video storytelling pieces to share Goodwill’s mission and initiatives with the public and targeted stakeholders and craft and curate compelling stories in formats across all platforms to support mission programs and campaigns.
  • Collaborate with the Public Relations and Marketing and Communications team on the editorial calendar and plan use of resources (time and vendors) with the Senior Director of Public Relations.
  • Write, edit and disseminate external communication materials that inform, educate and promote strategic goals and initiatives, programs and services and the organization, including video content, media interview briefs, news releases, letters to the editor, social media messages, talking points, website content, messaging, fact sheets, and op-eds. Materials include both national materials for use by GII and template materials for use by local Goodwill organizations.
  • Provide counsel to local Goodwill organizations on public relations, issues management/crisis communications and other communication tactics as needed in conjunction with the executive team and the Senior Director of Public Relations.
  • Monitor and measure news coverage and trends. Work directly with the PR Specialist on developing and maintaining GII’s news monitoring systems including Cision and Critical Mention. Collaborate with colleagues regarding Talkwalker, social media tracking software. Analyze news and social media data, and create media reports.
  • Lead Goodwill’s communication and public relations needs for grant-funded projects and with cause partners and work with public relations counterparts at foundations and partner companies on cross promotional efforts in conjunction with the Senior Director of Public Relations.
  • Develop, implement, monitor and manage Goodwill Industries International (GII) communications, public relations and media relations campaigns to raise the visibility and understanding of Goodwill’s brand, mission and social enterprise in coordination with the Senior Director of Public Relations.
  • Lead external video production for mission awareness and thought leadership, including the CEO’s LinkedIn video series. Ensure professional quality and high editorial standards within specific budget parameters. Manage video projects on-site and coordinate logistics with video vendors, Goodwill partners, GII and local Goodwill organization(s). Collaborate with GII colleagues to develop video projects.
  • Serve as a spokesperson when directed by the Senior Director of Public Relations.
  • Work with the MarCom and other GII teams to develop promotional needs for organizational initiatives and campaigns, mission programs and key observances, including messaging and content strategy.
    Work cross functionally with other GII teams. Serve as primary contact when the Senior Director of Public Relations is unavailable.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong process, project management and improvement skills.
  • Knowledge of video and multimedia production processes and ability to manage projects from start to finish as well as handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with filming video with in-house equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook and Visio), as well as video editing and software programs. Office has Final Cut Pro X and Adobe Premiere software.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate efficiently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate and grow relationships with a range of partners.
  • Ability to provide interview and media training.
  • Highly organized with effective ability to plan and prioritize.
  • Ability to set, manage and meet deadlines efficiently and effectively under challenging conditions and circumstances, manage multiple projects, and the ability to pivot when circumstances dictate.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work successfully and professionally with diverse groups of members, including board members, presidents, and CEOs, GII team members and Goodwill members.
  • Excellent written communication skills (grammar, spelling, punctuation, and proofreading), customer service, news writing, speaking and presentation, storytelling, and script writing skills for both internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to relate well to others, both individually and in group settings.
  • Understanding of social media platforms and tools, including Facebook, Twitter TikTok and Instagram as well as staying ahead of digital trends.
  • Through knowledge of communication principles and media protocol, including an understanding of the organizational goal; building a message platform that explains the attributes of the organization; communications’ integration and impact; reaching audiences building a communications plan and measurable activities; and interfacing with media, influencers, and key stakeholders.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and work independently.
  • Familiarity with lighting design for video.
  • Availability for occasional travel.
