Job Description:

The Import Customs Compliance Supervisor position will lead the development of Customs Compliance as related to classification of Ross imported products. Responsibilities of the position includes classification of product, management of Import Customs Compliance Specialists and workload, coordination of special projects and working with key users in the continual improvements of business processes within the supply chain environment. This individual will be required to act as a subject matter expert in the areas of responsibility (listed below) and work effectively within the organization.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize team workload within merchant structure and properly assign requests to Specialists for timely resolution
  • Ensure accurate classification information and applicable duty for multiple product types imported by Ross Stores is properly captured in Ross systems
  • Meet and interface with Buyer, Agents and Vendors to understand needs and manage any classification and duty impact requests
  • Management responsibilities of 2-3 direct reports, including career and professional coaching and development of associates
  • Field all merchant inquiries pertaining to customs classification, initiate appropriate research, and provide timely responses/resolutions.
  • Coordinate and manage special projects for the department
  • Maintain buyer classification tools to ensure accuracy
  • Analyze and determine any other U.S. Government impact to items such as, but not limited to China 301 duties, GSP, antidumping and/or countervailing orders

Job Requirements:

  • Consistent timeliness and regular attendance
  • Licensed U S Customs Broker
  • High level working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
  • Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer
  • Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc
  • Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5-6 years’ experience with broad customs classification experience using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule in an international transportation or customs brokerage atmosphere
  • Experience with transportation and compliance systems
  • 1-2 years of management experience
  • 2-3 years of customer service experience
