Job Description:

The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is the designated EHS team representative dedicated to a fulfillment center (FC) ensuring effective implementation of the Staples EHS Program. This role will communicate and partner closely with site leadership, and the EHS team to execute and maintain a best-in-class safety program.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct risk assessments related to job functions and new equipment or process changes introduced to the facility
  • Review incident investigation quality and effectiveness of root causes and corrective actions taken
  • Act as a primary responder to provide first aid treatment and triage to injured associates
  • Assist in facilitating the Associate Safety Committee including engagement activities and meetings
  • Participate in shift stand ups to ensure effective safety messaging, communication, and stretching is being performed
  • Conduct Hazardous Waste audits and ensure overall HAZWASTE/HAZMAT program compliance
  • Ensuring site level compliance with OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and local requirements to include
  • Provide weekly and monthly leadership update reports of site level EHS performance
    to drive an integrated safety culture within the FC.
  • Conduct EHS training, to include new hire EHS orientation, and coach associates on observed work habits
  • Complete required facility audits to ensure compliance with Staples EHS programs
  • Execute site level safety projects and initiatives to mitigate risks
  • Serving as the local EHS subject matter expert
  • Availability to work flexible shifts including days, nights and/or weekends as necessary

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to analyze, define, diagnose, and resolve problems based on sound logic and rationale
  • Proven record of collaborating with a cross functional team
  • Ability to build partnerships with operations leaders and influence without authority
  • Knowledgeable in data analytics and visualization
  • Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 standards

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience with project management including project sourcing, planning and execution
  • Experience conducting EHS audits and developing corrective action plans
  • OSHA 30 Hour (General Industry)
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certified (instructor preferred, or willing to achieve in first 90 days)
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
  • Experience in a warehouse environment
  • Associates Degree in Occupational Safety, Supply Chain, or similar concentration (or 3+ years of direct EHS experience in lieu of a degree)
  • 1+ years’ experience in an environmental, health and safety (EHS) related field
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Graduate Safety Professional (GSP), or similar industry certification desirable
