Job Description:

This position is located on the Custer Gallatin National Forest, Gardiner Ranger District. Incumbent performs a variety of work in support of the unit wilderness/recreation program.

Job Responsibilities:

• Administers a recreation area with responsibility for developing and carrying out operations plans for the use, improvement and maintenance for developed and dispersed recreation sites.
• Implements wilderness, and/or trail and bridge construction and reconstruction projects.
• Responsible for developing and carrying out operating plans for wilderness maintenance, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and construction projects based on approved direction in land management plans.
• Formulates and implements wilderness project work plans in accordance with agency policy.
• Serves as a Forest Protection Officer (FPO).
• Trains crews in wilderness and trails construction and revegetation techniques.
• Ensures the maintenance of wilderness areas
• Conducts investigations, collects evidence and prepares case reports on violations.
• Conducts Limits of Acceptable Change (LAC) studies, interprets findings to make recommendations to wilderness management objectives and policies, and suggests alternative methods for meeting objectives and/or policies.

Job Requirements:

• Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• You must be a US Citizen or US National.
• Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.
• Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
• Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution.
• Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
• This is a drug testing designated position. You will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.

Qualification & Experience:

• For the GS-07: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 in the Federal service. OR One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as forestry, range management, agriculture); OR Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience (listed above). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.
• For the GS-06: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal service. OR One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as forestry, range management, agriculture); OR Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience (listed above). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.
